What is paper piecing?According to Vonda Kirkpatrick at Scrapjazz, "Paper piecing is simply putting together different pieces of paper to form a unique design. Paper piecing, in regards to scrapbooking, entails using different color solid and patterned papers to form eye-catching objects, borders, or designs. It is a fun and creative technique that can be used not only to enhance scrapbook layouts but also cards and gift bags. While paper piecing isn’t a new trend, it is one that seems to be quite appealing to many scrappers and allows them to add a special touch to their layouts."
Melinda Spinks created these darling cards using the artwork from the Splash Dance Collection. Here's the Fantastic Friends Rub-ons she might have used to created her crab and jellyfish. Remember whether you are using a paper piecing pattern, scrapbooking embellishments or paper, a coloring book, stationary or some other source, that the original pattern can be enlarged or reduced using a copying machine or your scanner and a graphics program.
Helpful Hints: For shading some scrapbookers use chalks to define the edges. Lining with a black or white pen also helps define the edges of each piece.
