I-Space:Penny Smith!

I wanted to share my scrap space-even though it is never "perfect", and I am always adding and changing things. But hopefully I can inspire you to be who you are, embrace that, and surround yourself with things that you love!

When we built this house, we decided that we wanted an office/studio, and not a dining room (how it was on the blueprints). I don't make regular formal meals, so let's make a space we'll USE-daily in this case! (And WHY do we need 2 rooms to eat in??) And I also decided that I wanted to share the space with my husband, keeping in mind the advice of a mentor about spending "side by side" together! Alas, no pink walls, or floral containers. But company when I have a random comment when he is playing video games while I create! I picked a color for the walls that was masculine enough, but worked for us both. (It is the color from my hair salon-I made them write down the number and name of the color so I could use it for our room! :) )

(That's Ashton there, ready to take you on your tour.)
My husband's desk (which I did not photograph) is in the corner. It houses his computers and monitors (yes, monitorS!). It is a regular hangout for all the geeks in our family. (That would be all of us).

The space is ~12x13 feet. It has french doors at it's opening. And a hanging light over my work table (which I got on clearance for about $13! Yay me!). And outlets in the the middle of the room underneath the table. Though I could use a larger room already (hee!) I am always looking for ways to make the most of my space.
As for that table. I found it a couple of years back at an antique store. It is an old workbench, and I LOVE it! Someone even carved their name in the top! It is smooth from use, and on one side it has many drawers and cubbies.

This room also functions as a place where I can be surrounded by pictures and things that I love... things that inspire... reminders of dreams... proof of accomplishments...
Prior to this house, I had many frames that weren't black, my current frame color of choice. This room, with it's warm rustic green, works great with those frames I use to buy (wood and gold)... I know I could spray paint them all, but for now, they work.
I also have a thing for vintage items... especially vintage cameras and vintage jars full of vintage (and modern) buttons, spools of thread, game pieces, toy blocks... they make me happy.
I also look for vintage or reproduction items to store my supplies.

I do have some plastic in the room...
(Aquired this paper tray tower from a store that was closing.) ...but I prefer to be creative with my storage needs. Pyrex dessert glass bowls in a rack, vintage wooden shoe mold holder, old cubby cabinet, old wooden tool totes (a weakness of mine), wooden boxes (like the one holding a few albums), wire baskets, old drawers from cabinets who-knows-where-they-are... they make my space interesting, if not eclectic. :)
This cabinet use to hold knick knacks of mine-now I use it for paint. Storing them with the bottoms out makes it easiest to see the color-and to see them all.
Even the furniture pieces I use are repurposed shelves and dressers...
Want to conceal some things-vintage dressers can be found inexpensively, and are easily painted too!I also display a few favorite layouts (each member in the family gets one of the 5 spots at all times!) on a cafe rod.And my Ikea 2 cube x 4 cube shelf? Placed it on it's side, and attached legs under it for some height!
And my organization of products? Some by type, some by color, some by brand... it depends on what it is! :) But over time I went with how I scrap, and as much of it visible as possible.

Thanks for stopping by! Come visit me on my blog! All followers are always entered in all drawings! :)

Love your room! Your sign says it all but could you please try to convince my husband of that?!?! LOL!

I love your LO display. I really should look into that. I have a few LOs I'd love to display and a very empty hallway wall!

I like how you tend to use metal, glass, wood, etc. rather than plastic. I use mostly plastic because it's pretty cheap, and abundant. But I'd prefer the gorgeous stuff! sharon dot gullikson at gmail dot com
