Design Team Challenge - Day 5

It's the final day of our Design Team challenge and we hope that you have been inspired & challenge to step out of your traditional ways of thinking & creating.
Try something new. Be brave. You can do it!

We've got a few more designers that are going to share some projects with us today so let's take a look at what they created for this challenge.

*******

Rhonda Van Ginkel

I was so inspired by this challenge, I just love shaped cards!  I found this cute design in the Silhouette store and knew I wanted to make some of these little bird cards!
There are a few friends of mine who are expecting right now so I thought how cute it would be to create a baby card!  I started with the Makin' Waves collection and used the blue chevron pattern paper as my base.  I added a smidge of orange in the wing and my favorite tear shaped gems for accent.  A bit of baker's twine for hair was my finishing touch.
After I created him, I figured he needed a friend so I created the pink girl themed card next.  : )

I thought these also work nicely for the holidays, so I created a few more using our Christmas Cheer collection.  A bit of orange is layered into their wings.

Blue and Pink Bird Ingredients:  Makin' Waves papers, i-rock, Glam Rocks in Black, Silver Tears, Hearts and Hot Rocks Compact - Rhinestuds and Glitter by Imaginisce, Twine by The Twinery, White and Black Cardstock by AC and Silhouette.
Christmas Bird Ingredients:  Christmas Cheer and Makin' Waves collections, i-rock, Glam Rocks in Red, Hot Rocks Compact - Glitter, Rhinestuds and Crystals by Imaginisce, Snowflake and Frond punches by Martha Stewart, Silhouette, Martha Stewart Twine, White and Black Cardstock by AC and Silhouette.

I love shaped cards! For my challenge project, I wanted to make a fun little card for my little guy's upcoming birthday. He is a HUGE fan of cupcakes and so I combined patterned papers from the Hello Cupcake and Makin' Waves collections. There was orange in the paper and I added some cardstock to match. And, for the "cherry on top," I used the i-Top and a medium Brad Daddy to make a coordinating topper!

Supply list:
Patterned Paper: Let's Party, Wish Big from Hello, Cupcake collection; Makin' Waves collection (Imaginisce); Accents: Cardstock: Chocolate Chip, Pumpkin Pie (Stampin' Up!) Good Times Sticker Stacker, Brad Daddy (Imaginisce); Tool: i-Top (Imaginisce)

Cari Locken

Stepping out of my normal card size isn't always easy for me but I love using my Cricut Expression to make shaped cards and layouts. So I used the Wild Card 2 cartridge to create this cute little owl shaped card.  It's approx. 6 1/2" x 5" in size.

I used several different patterned papers, embossed the orange one to give some texture. I did the same thing on the 'branch' of the card using a woodgrain embossing folder.  The cartridge had a cut-out shape for the eyes but I used my i-Top tool and smallest sized brad daddies to make the eyes for my owl.

I had no sentiment or words on the front of the card so I typed out a phrase/sentiment onto white cardstock, punched it out and adhered it to the inside of the card.

Supplies used: Imaginisce (patterned papers from Makin' Waves and Monster Mash, i-Top tool, 16mm brad daddies), Embossing folders, Cricut Expression 2, Wild Card 2 cartridge, The Twinery (twine), Colorbox Fluid Chalk ink pad

Design Team Challenge - Day 4

It's always fun to give our Design Team a bit of challenge and they enjoy it as well.
It's so easy to get stuck in 'our' ways of creating and once in a while it's good to be given a push to try something new & different.  This can be a fresh approach to so many things.

Today we have a couple of talented designers sharing their ideas of a non-traditional shape.

*******

Mary Ann Jenkins

For my layout, I found a pumpkin shape in my daughters coloring book and enlarged it to fit on a 12x12 sheet of paper. I cut 1 whole pumpkin, and 1 extra piece of just the center section. I inked the edges to define the different pieces of the pumpkin. I added a cardstock stem, 2 leaves that I cut with decorative scissors, a small Brad Daddie and a few embellishments to complete my layout.

Supplies Used: papers - Pick of the Patch, Fall Medley, Surfs Up, Celebrate You, I-Top tool, small Brad Daddie

I'm addicted to hearts, maybe because I have a romantic soul ... or just because I like the shape! So I knew exactly what to do when Imaginisce asked me to do something non-traditional shape: A "Fall heart". I hope you like it!

Supply list:
Makin’Waves Surf's Up 12x12 Paper, Monster Mash Enchantments 12x12 Paper, Monster Mash Spook Alley 12x12 Paper, I-top, i-rock Swirls Stencil, I-Rock, Glam Rocks - Metallic Pearl, Itty Bitty Blossoms.

Design Team Challenge - Day 3

How many of you have created a non-traditional card or layout before??  I'm sure that many of you haven't. However, I'm sure that there are many of you out there that have - especially if you own a Cricut, Silhouette or other type of digital cutting machines.   These machines make cutting out a variety of shapes so easy & simple ... and fun!!!  The ideas are endless and really help with your creativity!

If you missed the last 2 days here on our blog let me just fill you in a wee bit.
The Design Team have been given a challenge to create a layout or card that has a non-traditional shape. So, no circles, squares, rectangles, etc. Not allowed!
They also had to use the color orange somewhere on their project and incorporate the use of the i-top tool.

Would you like to see some more ideas from our Design Team?  Ok ... let's get started.

This was definitely a fun challenge.  Monster Mash is probably my favorite Imaginisce collection this year, and I love any chance I can get to use it!  I used my Cricut and the "Happy Hauntings" cartridge to cut my tombstone card, and of course my I-Top brad maker and large I-Top brads to pop up the pumpkin.  The ghost is adhered inside the card peeking out, and the bat is adhered to the back of the card.

Supplies:

Monster Mash Sticker Stackers
Monster Mash Canvas Stickers
Monster Mash Chipboard Stickers
Fall Medley 12x12 Cardstock
Pick of the Patch 12x12 Cardstock
Spook Alley 12x12 Cardstock
I-Top 2.0 Tool

Design Team Challenge - Day 2

Trying to come up with different designs and shapes for the traditional layout or card is never easy.  That's why we gave the challenge to our talented Design Team and they have all come up with some incredible ideas.

Today we have Abby & Guiseppa sharing their ideas with us. Let's take a look.

*******

Abby Laubenstein

I loved this fun challenge! My project began by photo-copying and enlarging the beautiful holiday wreath from Christmas Cheer's diecut package. I then cut out the shapes to use as templates, traced them onto patterned paper, cut them out and paper pieced them all together. I added orange stickles to the candle flame and also covered my i-top brad berries with glossy accents for shine. I included plenty of dimension on this 6inch card as some of the holly leaves are on 3D adhesive and some are behind peekaboo cuts. But I think my favorite thing about this card is the bow! I used gorgeous red ribbon by May Arts and also used my Imagicut on the four tails.. I love that crisp clean cut!

Supplies:
Imaginisce: Christmas Cheer patterned paper and diecuts. I-top brad maker, 16mm punch, 16mm brad daddies, Clicut, Imagicut
May Arts ribbon, Scrapbook Adhesives Crafty Power Tape, orange stickles, glossy accents, cardstock

Guiseppa Gubler

Speaking of shaped cards...what's more perfect for this time of the year than a pumpkin card!  I used the Monster Mash Collection which is full of wonderful patterned papers and orange of course.  I added a cute flower and used the I-Top to make the center.

Imaginicse Supplies: Monster Mash Patterned Paper, 16 mm Brad Daddies, I-Top, 16mm I-Top Punch, Monster Mash Canvas Stickers

Design Team Challenge - Day 1

We think we have an awesome group of designers this year.  They continually create projects that just 'wow' us all and so we thought we'd give them a little challenge.
We did do a similiar type challenge this year and this one just seems to take many of them out of their comfort zone.  Which, even though, they may not admit it, is a good thing. ;)

Anyways, here's their challenge for the week.

DESIGN TEAM CHALLENGE:

  • Create a non-traditional layout (no circle, no squares, etc). Really think out of the ordinary here.
  • Use the color ORANGE somewhere on your project.
  • Use the i-top tool on your project.

So ... let's take a look at what THREE of our designers created.

*******

Adora Concepcion

For this challenge, I created a Christmas Tree shaped card. Fold a 12X12 patterned paper and cut a tree shape leaving one side intact. For added dimension, i cut a smaller shape tree and attached it together using pop-dots. Then embellished it with cut out shape, die cuts and
small matching buttons.

Supplies: Imaginisce Christmas Cheer Papers; Christmas Joy, Be Jolly & Warm Wishes; Imaginisce Rejoice Die Cuts, Imaginisce Tool;  I-Bond & I -top;
and Imaginisce Small Brad Daddies.

Heather Leopard

I love to give and receive homemade cards. I'd guess 95% of the cards I create are the typical rectangle shape but every now and again it's fun to mix it up. Today I cut this cute flower card using my CAMEO and the Makin' Waves collection. I added some sparkle and shine using my i-rock. I can't wait to give this to someone special.

Supplies: Imaginisce (Makin' Waves collection)

Ilene Tell

This was a bit outside my comfort zone, but it ended up being so fun to be challenged to think outside the box! I had these cute pics of the kids after a bath, that I've been hanging onto forever, and I knew this was the perfect challenge to finally use them. What better way to show off some pictures of the kids at home, than with a home-shaped layout :) To create the roof, I punched many layers with a border punch and then layered them on top of each other. Super simple!

Supplies:
Paper: Imaginisce (Makin' Waves, Monster Mash), Tool: I-Top + Brad Daddies, Border Punch: Martha Stewart Crafts, Flowers: Prima Marketing, Door Embellishment: Recollections, Die-Cutting Machine: Sizzix (Big Shot), Heart Die: Tim Holtz, House Template: October Afternoon, Foam Letters: American Crafts, Pink Paislee, Color Spray: Tattered Angels, Ink: Cat's Eye Chalk Ink.
